Seniors in the Mass Communications Specialty Center at Manchester High took their skills beyond the classroom and into the fields at the State Fair of Virginia on Oct. 1. Armed with cameras, microphones and tripods, students worked as real-world reporters — researching events, interviewing organizers and vendors and capturing b-roll footage to bring the fair to life.
Each student team will develop a complete news package for MHS Voice, applying the storytelling techniques they’ve learned: storyboarding, writing interview questions, conducting cold interviews and producing polished news packages.
This hands-on experience showcases the power of student journalism and gives seniors the chance to practice their craft while covering one of Virginia’s most exciting events.
