The Spanish Governor’s Academy is a three-week, residential full-immersion program sponsored by the Virginia Department of Education for Virginia high school students who have demonstrated strong interest and ability in Spanish. Students live and learn in an environment where Spanish is used for academic and social interactions, giving them an opportunity to strengthen their language skills and experience communication in meaningful, real-world contexts.
Sydney describes the experience: The Governor’s Spanish Language Academy is in my top three best experiences! I had the best time spending 3 weeks immersed in Spanish and meeting people who loved the language just as much as I did!! At the Academy we attended classes, participated in various cultural activities, went on field trips, watched movies and telenovelas, danced, sang and more! We also collaborated with the French and German academies in activities such as an international dance, a talent night, and our own version of the World Cup (which the Spanish Academy won)!!
Asistir a la Academia Española del Gobernador (AEG) fue uno de los mejores experiencias de mi vida! Disfruté mucho pasar tres semanas inmersa en la legua española y conocer a la gente que quería el idioma tanto como yo!! Durante la Academia, asistíamos clases, participábamos en varias actividades culturales, íbamos en excursiones, mirábamos películas/telenovelas, bailábamos, cantábamos y más. Además, colaborábamos muchos con las academias de Francés y Alemán en actividades como un baile internacional, una noche de talentos, y nuestra propia versión de la Copa Mundial (que ganó AEG)!
